Albanians put more money back into banks

Bank deposits in Albania rose again in May after a small fall earlier this year, according to central bank data.

Deposits reached about 1.53 trillion leks by the end of May 2026. That was around 32 billion leks, or 2.1%, more than in April.

Most savings are still held in foreign currency, mainly euros. Foreign-currency deposits rose by about 18 billion leks in May, reaching roughly 782 billion lek.

Deposits in the local currency also increased, rising by about 14 billion leks to around 751 billion leks.

The figures show households and businesses kept more money in the banking system, with families remaining the main holders of deposits.
