Parliament sets up committee on foreign disinformation

Albania’s parliament has set up a new subcommittee to monitor foreign interference and disinformation in the media and online.

The group will examine false or manipulated information aimed at Albania, including campaigns that could influence public debate or elections.

It will also look at media literacy, transparency in the information space and public awareness of disinformation.

The subcommittee is expected to agree its work plan at its next meeting. It will work with national security institutions and international partners.

Parliament says the step follows similar action by the European Parliament, opening the door to future cooperation.
