Road crashes kill or injure nearly six people a day in Albania, according to official data.

Crashes causing deaths or injuries rose by 6.8% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year. Tirana recorded the highest number.

The head of Albania’s national emergency service linked the June increase to heavier summer traffic, including tourists and Albanians returning from abroad. He also cited alcohol and drug use.

INSTAT said driver behaviour caused about 94% of road crashes. Drivers aged 35 to 44 accounted for the largest share.
