Police arrest Albanian and three others in 2.6-tonne cocaine seizure

Police seized more than 2.6 tonnes of cocaine from a speedboat off Portugal’s Atlantic coast, Italian authorities said.

The drugs had an estimated retail value of €500 million.

Four men were arrested: two Spanish nationals, a Gibraltar resident and an Albanian national living in Italy.

Authorities said the boat was used to collect cocaine dropped at sea by larger ships arriving from South America.

The operation involved Italian, Spanish and Portuguese authorities.
