Lumir Abdixhiku will face a vote on his leadership on July 30 after about 150 delegates from the Democratic League of Kosovo backed a move to remove him.
The challenge follows the party’s third-place finish in June’s election, when it won 18 of parliament’s 120 seats.
The dispute has already halted talks with election winner Albin Kurti and could affect efforts to form Kosovo’s next government.
Parliament is due to meet on August 6.
