Albania’s parliament has suspended opposition MP Agron Shehaj for 60 days after he removed a confidential US military loan agreement from parliament.
The suspension bars him from plenary sessions and parliamentary committees.
The governing Socialists said Shehaj took the document by force after staff refused to let him remove it. They said a secretary fell down the stairs and was injured while trying to recover it.
The party has also asked Albania’s special prosecution office to investigate possible criminal offences involving classified information.
Shehaj denies wrongdoing. He says he took the document to expose a lack of transparency over the fast-tracked $302 million loan agreement.
