England beat Croatia as Portugal draw with DR Congo

England opened their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 win over Croatia, while Portugal were stunned by a 1-1 draw against DR Congo.

The Three Lions delivered the game of the day, hitting four goals to take control of Group L. Ghana joined them on three points after edging Panama 1-0.

Portugal were expected to start with a win but left points on the table after failing to put away DR Congo.

The big winner was Colombia. A 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan sent the South Americans to the top of Group K and piled early pressure on Portugal.

After one round of matches, England and Colombia are flying. Portugal already have work to do.
