Kosovo urged to join US-backed gas projects

Kosovo is being urged to join US-backed gas projects or risk weakening one of its most important partnerships.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo and the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce say the country could be left behind as other Balkan states move ahead with new LNG links.

They say staying out of regional gas plans could hurt ties with Washington and limit future investment.

Kosovo still relies heavily on ageing coal plants and costly electricity imports, making energy security one of its biggest economic challenges.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s caretaker government has shown more interest in turning local coal into gas, possibly with help from a US company.
