An appeals court in Albania has rejected a challenge by former president Ilir Meta, leaving him in custody as he awaits trial on corruption-related charges.
Meta has been held since October 2024 and is under investigation in several cases, including the CEZ-DIA affair, political lobbying in the United States and an asset investigation.
Prosecutors have completed their investigation and sent the case to court.
Meta and his former wife, Monika Kryemadhi, are accused of corruption, money laundering and failing to declare assets.
After the ruling, Meta's lawyer criticised the decision and said he would pursue further legal action.
