US lawmakers move to block Belgrade OSCE meeting

A bipartisan group of US lawmakers is seeking to stop Belgrade from hosting the OSCE’s 2027 annual meeting.

Republican Joe Wilson plans to introduce a resolution on Friday backing Charleston, South Carolina. It has 40 co-sponsors.

Lawmakers opposing Belgrade cite Serbia’s economic ties with Russia, its refusal to join Western sanctions and its position on Kosovo.

Charleston and Belgrade are the only candidates to host delegates from 57 countries.

It is unclear whether Congress will vote before the summer recess.
