Albania’s debt falls, but rise expected

Albania’s public debt fell to the equivalent of 49% of the economy by the end of June, down from nearly 74% in 2021.

But the government expects the figure to rise again to 52.8% by the end of the year.

The state also has more time to repay or replace its borrowing. The average term of domestic debt has increased from 2.2 years in 2021 to 3.3 years.

Finance Minister Petrit Malaj said the share of debt due within a year had also fallen, reducing pressure on the government to find new money quickly.
