German police are hunting a 21-year-old suspect after a van drove into crowds near Berlin’s Pride celebrations, killing one person and injuring at least 16. Several victims are seriously hurt.
Police said Abdul B. was known to them for links to Berlin’s Islamist scene and may be armed. His home was searched, but he was not found. The motive remains unclear.
The van entered Tiergarten park, struck several people and crashed into a tree. Police are also examining reports that some victims were stabbed.
Christopher Street Day is one of Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ events and draws hundreds of thousands of people to Berlin each year.
