Bosnian man charged over hidden wartime abuse

US prosecutors have charged a Bosnian man with hiding alleged wartime abuse while seeking American citizenship.

Miran Kostić, 66, is accused of beating prisoners and ordering others to assault them during the Bosnian war of the 1990s.

Prosecutors say he was a senior official in the breakaway Autonomous Province of Western Bosnia. They say he failed to disclose war crimes charges in Bosnia and later lied to the FBI and immigration officers.

Kostić faces charges of attempted naturalisation fraud and making false statements. Each fraud count carries up to ten years in prison.
