EU court says RT ban covers free websites

The EU’s top court ruled that the bloc’s ban on Russia Today content also applies to free public websites.

The Court of Justice of the European Union said the ban does not depend on whether the content is shared for profit, how widely it is shared or how long it stays online.

The case came from Germany, where three people are being prosecuted for posting RT Germany videos on a public website.

The EU banned RT and other Russian state media after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, saying the outlets spread Russian propaganda and threaten public order and security.
