US Embassy tells Americans to avoid protest in Tirana

The US Embassy in Albania has advised American citizens to avoid a protest outside parliament in central Tirana today.

The embassy said protests can change quickly even when they begin peacefully. It warned that the gathering could spread to areas near other government buildings.

More police officers are expected in the area. Roads may close, traffic may be diverted and delays are likely.

The embassy advised Americans to follow local news, remain alert and have a plan for leaving the area.
