Rama says protests have turned into intimidation

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has accused some protesters in Tirana of using threats, insults and online abuse to silence people who disagree with them.

Rama said peaceful protest is democratic, but the latest scenes in the capital had gone beyond debate.

He posted footage showing protesters confronting people who were watching a World Cup match in Tirana’s main square.

Rama said people who do not support the protest are being targeted online and in public.

He described the tactics as extremist and said they were meant to make people afraid to speak.
