16 face charges over road blockades in the capital

Police in Tirana are investigating 16 people over road blockades during a recent protest in the Albanian capital.

The suspects are accused of blocking traffic, disrupting public order and taking part in an unauthorised gathering.

Police said two more people are being sought.

Investigators say some protesters remained on the streets beyond the agreed protest hours and moved outside the designated protest area.

Police said the demonstration disrupted traffic across parts of the capital.

Some protesters also entered a World Cup fan zone in Skanderbeg Square and urged people watching the match to join the protest.

Prosecutors have been notified, while police said further action could follow. Authorities had already opened proceedings against another 19 people linked to the same protest two days earlier.
