New rules on party funding get European backing

Albania's proposed new rules on political party funding have received backing from the Venice Commission.

The commission said the bill would make party funding more transparent, but recommended changes to strengthen oversight and enforcement.

The bill was agreed by the governing Socialist Party and the opposition Democratic Party.

Parliament will consider those recommendations before a final vote.
