EU lawmakers approve Albania progress report

The European Parliament has approved its latest report on Albania’s progress towards EU membership.

The report passed with 483 votes in favour, 103 against and 70 abstentions.

Andreas Schieder, the parliament’s rapporteur for Albania, said the country wants to join the EU by 2030 and close membership talks by 2027.

He said more than 90% of Albanians support EU membership.

Schieder said Albania had taken the steps expected from a candidate country.
