Police probe fake reviews targeting tourism businesses

Albanian police are investigating suspected fake online reviews targeting tourism businesses.

Police said more than 10,000 suspicious accounts had been identified.

The accounts allegedly posted negative comments and ratings against businesses in Tirana, Durres, Vlora, Saranda and other cities.

Investigators are checking whether the posts were coordinated by looking at their timing, wording and spread.

State Police Director Skënder Hitaj said the activity, if proven, could hurt businesses, consumer trust and Albania’s image as a tourist destination.

Police said they are working with online platforms and international partners to identify those behind the posts.
