Foreign tourists to pay for public health care in Albania

Foreign tourists who receive treatment in Albania’s public health system will pay set fees this summer.

The measure comes as higher tourist numbers increase pressure on emergency rooms, health centres and hospitals during the peak season.

Doctors say public facilities are treating more foreign visitors, from minor cases to more specialised medical needs.

The new fee system is meant to clarify how foreign nationals are charged when they use public health services.

Albania has seen strong growth in tourism in recent years, increasing demand not only for hotels and transport, but also for public services.
