Albania and Montenegro lead Balkan reforms

Albania and Montenegro are advancing faster than their Balkan neighbors in executing the legal and economic reforms required by the European Union.

Gert Jan Koopman, the European Commission's Director-General for Enlargement, informed parliamentarians that both nations should complete eighty percent of their targeted measures by June.

Achieving this completion rate is critical because Brussels strictly links financial payments from its regional growth plan to the verified execution of those specific reforms.

To receive the money, the candidate governments must successfully upgrade their judicial systems, national economies, energy networks, and public administration.

The six-billion-euro regional initiative aims to accelerate economic alignment with European standards before either nation achieves full union membership.
