Argentina defeat ten-man Switzerland in extra time to reach semi-finals

In Kansas City, defending champions Argentina have reached the World Cup semi-finals after defeating ten-man Switzerland three-to-one in extra time.

Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister put Argentina ahead in the tenth minute. Dan Ndoye equalised for Switzerland in the sixty-seventh minute. Five minutes later, the referee sent off Swiss striker Breel Embolo for a second yellow card.

With the score tied at one-to-one after ninety minutes, Julián Álvarez struck from long range in the one hundred and twelfth minute to restore Argentina's lead. Lautaro Martínez scored a third goal on the counter-attack to seal the win.

Argentina will now face England in the semi-finals on Wednesday in Atlanta.
