In North Macedonia, protests have erupted in the city of Tetovo, after a court ruling stripped Albanian names from major streets and squares.
The demonstration on Saturday was led by the Democratic Union for Integration. The party is challenging a Constitutional Court decision that reverses a 2007 measure. Under the ruling, the city's central Liria Square will lose its Albanian name and revert to Marshal Tito — after the former Yugoslav leader.
The party is demanding an immediate emergency council meeting to restore the names and protect other streets named after Albanian heroes.
The ruling party has agreed to convene a session, but says council members will decide whether to allow a vote. Protest leaders say they will stay on the streets until that vote takes place.
