Two arrested over 1999 war crimes in Kosovo

Kosovo prosecutors have arrested two people suspected of committing war crimes against civilians in the Mitrovica area during the 1999 war.

The suspects, identified as M.J. and M.B., were detained for 48 hours. Prosecutors released no further details, saying the investigation was continuing.

The Serbian List, Kosovo’s main Serb party, accused the authorities of using war-crimes cases to intimidate the Serb community. Serbia’s government also condemned the arrests.

More than 13,000 people were killed during the Kosovo war. About 1,600 people remain missing, most of them ethnic Albanians.
