The European Union has agreed to start formal talks to scrap mobile roaming charges for six Western Balkan nations.
The decision allows the European Commission to negotiate individual deals with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia. The move will eventually let travelers use mobile data, calls, and texts at domestic rates when moving between the EU and the Balkans.
To finalize the deals, each Balkan country must first change its domestic telecom laws to match EU standards.
The initiative matches the zero-tariff roaming rules already running across the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Moldova, and Ukraine.
