Minister warns drivers after car caught at 212 km/h

Albania's interior minister has warned drivers that extreme speeding will be caught by new automated cameras after police clocked a car at 212 km/h (131 mph).

Besfort Lamallari said driving at more than twice the 90 km/h speed limit on a central Albanian highway was a direct threat to life, rather than a simple mistake.

He confirmed that state police have deployed smart traffic cameras across the country’s road network to automatically detect and punish severe driving violations.

Warning motorists that they cannot avoid the technology, Lamallari called for safer driving.
