Hotel tax revenue rises sevenfold in Albania

Albanian municipalities collected 736 million leks, or €7.8 million, in hotel taxes in 2025.

Revenue was 98.6 million leks in 2015. The increase over ten years was 646%.

The tax is paid by guests and transferred to municipalities by hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation providers.

Authorities say undeclared stays remain common. Some businesses do not register their full capacity or report all nights sold.

New rules require providers to declare sales equal to at least 65% of capacity from May to September and 30% during the rest of the year.

More than 18,200 short-term rental properties are listed on booking platforms.
