Albanian MP in Serbia seeks €10m for Preševo Valley

BELGRADE, Aug 26 (TemA) – Serbia’s only ethnic Albanian lawmaker has demanded a €10 million annual fund for the development of the Preševo Valley, accusing Belgrade of decades of neglect.

Shaip Kamberi said the money should be used for infrastructure, jobs, farming, education and social life in the Albanian-majority municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa, which he described as among the poorest in Serbia.

Analysts say Albanians in the region face long-standing economic and political discrimination, while Belgrade insists on maximum rights for Serbs in Kosovo. Activists argue that only strong international pressure would force Serbia to back such a fund, noting the scale of underinvestment over the past 25 years.
