Farm support cut as public projects fund gets €75m

The government has cut farm support by about 1.5 million euros while adding about 75 million euros to the Albanian Development Fund.

Budget revision data show rural development and agriculture support fell by 113.7 million lek, or 1.5%.

The cut comes as agriculture and livestock are weakening. INSTAT data show wheat production fell 10.1% in 2025, potatoes 7.2% and fruit 12.8%.

Livestock numbers also fell in 2024. Sheep were down 3.8%, goats 2.2% and pigs 9.4%. Milk and meat production also declined.

At the same time, the Albanian Development Fund’s budget rose 30.2%, from 24.8 billion lek to 32.3 billion lek.

Most of the extra money went to development programmes covering infrastructure, urban upgrades, public spaces and tourism-related projects.
