
TIRANA, Jan 29, 2025 - Cargo volumes at the Port of Durres increased by 15.4% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2024, underlining the port's continued dominance in Albania's maritime trade, according to data from the national statistics agency, INSTAT.
Durres handled 94.3% of the country's total seaborne freight over the period, with throughput reaching 1.8 million tonnes. The figures reflect a sustained recovery in shipping activity, bolstered by increased demand for industrial materials and energy commodities.
Refined petroleum products accounted for 20.5% of total shipments, making them the largest category of transported goods. Basic metals and fabricated metal products comprised 17%, while non-metallic mineral products represented 12.6%. Coal, lignite, crude oil, and natural gas shipments made up 5.8% of total cargo.
