Analyst says Albania island row could scare off investors

Austrian economist Gunther Fehlinger has warned that Albania could lose a major investment opportunity if the debate over Sazan island becomes too politically polarised.

In a social media post, Fehlinger said international investors look for stability, legal certainty and a business climate that welcomes large projects.

He said other tourist destinations in the region, including Greece, could benefit if Albania fails to move ahead with the Sazan investment.

Fehlinger argued that projects of this scale can bring jobs, new income and greater international attention.

The Sazan plan is part of a wider debate over luxury tourism development on Albania’s coast.
