Albania to complete major road projects by summer 2025

TIRANA, April 15 (TemA) – Albania is set to complete one of its most troubled infrastructure projects this summer, as the long-delayed Qukës–Qafë Plloçë highway nears the finish line. The road, which cuts through mountainous terrain in the country’s southeast, is expected to significantly improve travel between central Albania and the border with North Macedonia.

Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluku said the new route will ease pressure on older, winding roads and cut travel times toward Korçë, a key city near the Greek and North Macedonian borders.

She also announced the opening of the Maqellarë–Peshkopi road by April 30 and confirmed that Albania has begun seeking international financing for the €250 million Elbasan Bypass – a strategic link in the pan-European Corridor VIII.

Several additional road projects are planned in the coming years to boost access to remote areas in southern and mountainous parts of the country, as Albania aims to modernize its transport network ahead of its EU integration goals.
