Trump to lead July 4 rally on National Mall

President Donald Trump is set to attend a July 4 rally on Washington’s National Mall on Saturday as the United States marks its 250th anniversary.

The White House-backed event will include military flyovers, a large fireworks display and a speech by Trump later in the evening. Organizers say about 850,000 fireworks will be launched from sites across Washington and the Potomac River.

The event has drawn criticism from Democrats who accuse Trump of politicizing the national anniversary. Several music acts dropped out after being announced.

Extreme heat, possible thunderstorms and tight security could affect turnout. Some earlier events were canceled because of forecast temperatures near 38C.
