Man arrested at Serbia border on war crimes claims

Serbian police arrested a man at the Mutivoda border crossing on suspicion of war crimes from the 1998-99 Kosovo war.

Serbia’s Interior Ministry said the suspect, identified only as O.S., was ordered held for 30 days by the Higher Court in Belgrade.

Serbian authorities allege he took part in the killing of two Serb civilians, Vladimir and Persa Stanisavljevic, in the Sofalia area of Pristina on June 14, 1999.

Relatives identified the arrested man as Osman Selmani and said he was detained on July 1 while returning from his birthplace. They rejected the accusations as false and said they believe he is innocent.

Serbia has arrested several Kosovo citizens in recent years on war crimes allegations linked to the Kosovo war.
