Romania calls defence meeting after Russian drone strike

Romania’s president has called an urgent defence meeting after a Russian drone hit near the eastern city of Galați.

Nicușor Dan said the incident was unprecedented and required a coordinated response with NATO allies and international partners.

He blamed Russia directly, saying the strike was a result of its war against Ukraine and its operations close to NATO territory.

Dan said Russian forces were using weapons irresponsibly near Romania’s border and ignoring international law.

He said Romanian forces followed military procedures during the incident, but decided not to engage the target.
