Putin and Trump discuss Ukraine before NATO summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump ahead of next week’s NATO summit, the Kremlin said.

Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said the two leaders mainly discussed Ukraine. He said the call also came as Trump prepared to attend the NATO summit in Turkey on July 7 and 8.

The Kremlin said Putin called Trump to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also spoke with Trump earlier in the day, according to officials in Kyiv.
