Court to review arrests of 21 protesters

Twenty-one people arrested during the July 2 protest outside Albania’s parliament are due in court in Tirana today for a review of their arrests.

Protesters said they would gather outside the court during the hearing.

The arrests led to more unrest during Friday’s protest in the capital. After nearly two hours of speeches, protesters marched through the city and later gathered near a police station where some of the detainees were being held.

Police said a group of people, some wearing masks, attacked the station with stones and sticks, broke windows and forced open the entrance door. Some entered the reception area.

The 21 protesters face charges including property damage, resisting police, assaulting officers, unlawful assembly and blocking traffic.

That is cleaner for foreign readers. It keeps the essential facts and removes local clutter.
