Police to use cameras and drones for traffic offences

Albanian police say they will use more cameras, drones and automatic radars to catch traffic offences, instead of stopping drivers without clear reason.

Road police chief Skënder Hita said the force wanted to end random stops and the practice of “hunting” for fines.

He said Poliscan cameras, drones and automatic radars would detect speeding and other offences in real time, without holding up traffic.

Hita warned drivers not to speed, overtake dangerously, use phones at the wheel or drive after drinking alcohol.

Police have also prepared traffic plans for the summer tourist season, when roads become busier, especially on coastal routes.
