More foreign nationals sought asylum in Albania in 2025, but the overall number remained small compared with many European countries.
Official data show 144 people applied for asylum, up from 104 a year earlier. That marks an increase of more than 38%.
Egyptian citizens made up the largest group, with nearly 40% of all applications. Applicants from Afghanistan accounted for 11.8%, while Palestinians made up 9.7%.
Most requests came in late summer and early autumn, with more than 63% filed in August, September and October.
The data also show 495 people received or regained Albanian citizenship in 2025. More than half were originally from Kosovo
