Villa sale raises questions over lawmaker’s declarations

An Albanian opposition lawmaker is facing scrutiny over apparent differences in his asset declarations concerning an Italian villa sold for €15 million.

Agron Shehaj’s 2021 declaration listed the purchase of a 251-square-metre villa for €2.9 million. His 2025 declaration recorded its sale for €15 million.

Shehaj has since said the property was bought in 2019, covered almost 500 square metres and received about €4 million in investment.

Critics say his declarations do not clearly explain the different purchase date, the change in size or the renovation costs.

Shehaj says the property and sale were properly declared and that prices in the Italian resort of Forte dei Marmi are among the country’s highest.
