North Macedonia has declared a 30-day state of crisis in Gostivar, a city in the west of the country, after contaminated tap water was linked to more than 3,200 illness cases.
About 1,200 people sought medical help for stomach problems.
Tap water remains unsafe, and authorities are supplying 50,000 litres of drinking water each day.
Prosecutors are investigating whether illegal pumps allowed contaminated water to enter the city’s supply.
The head of the municipal water company and two other managers face possible detention.
