Socialists pass measures as opposition blocks podium

Albania’s ruling Socialists approved budget changes and seven institutional resolutions on Thursday after opposition lawmakers blocked the parliamentary podium and stopped debate.

Parliament moved directly to voting at the Socialists’ request.

Lawmakers approved changes to the 2026 budget and €4.3 million in public funding for a Kanye West concert. The concert funding passed with 80 votes in favour and six against.

Parliament also approved annual assessments of Albania’s anti-corruption prosecutors, the judicial and prosecutorial councils, the state audit office and three other public institutions.

The opposition continued its protest inside the chamber during the votes.
