Rama rejects calls to resign over coastal project

Prime Minister Edi Rama has rejected calls to resign over protests against a disputed tourism project on Albania’s coast.

Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Rama said he was ready to talk to people with genuine environmental concerns.

But he said he would not engage with protesters he described as politically driven.

Rama said nothing would move him from the mandate given by voters, saying he had a contract with at least 800,000 Albanians.

The protests are linked to the planned project near Zvërnec, which residents and environmental activists say could damage the coastal area.
