Rubio says Kosovo is not close to NATO membership

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Kosovo is not close to joining NATO.

Rubio told a congressional hearing that Kosovo’s membership was not high on the alliance’s agenda.

He said NATO was focused on other security pressures and that the issue had not come up strongly in recent talks with allies.

Congressman Keith Self said four NATO members were still blocking Kosovo’s path.

Rubio said that did not mean Kosovo would never join, only that it was not a priority now.
