Prosecutors allow Tirana mayor legal visits

Albanian prosecutors have allowed the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, to meet his international lawyers for the first time in 500 days.

His legal team plans to take his case to the European Court of Human Rights over suspected law breaches during his investigation.

Albania's special anti-corruption office had repeatedly blocked the foreign lawyers from seeing their client for more than 16 months.

Officials gave no public reason for suddenly changing their decision and allowing the visit.
