Hungary’s parliament has voted to change the constitution so it can dismiss the country's president, Tamás Sulyok.
The overwhelming vote will end Mr Sulyok’s term as soon as the law takes effect, allowing lawmakers to appoint a replacement.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar called for his removal, saying the country must replace laws passed under former leader Viktor Orbán.
Mr Magyar argued the existing constitution was designed to protect the previous ruling elite and keep one man in power.
Parliament will now elect an interim head of state to serve while the government writes an entirely new constitution.
