Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has defended a planned luxury resort project linked to Jared Kushner, saying protests against it are being fuelled by outside interests and political opponents.
In an interview with Italy’s Vanity Fair, Rama said many protesters were acting in good faith, but claimed others were pushing what he called a false narrative about the project.
He said Iran-linked groups, rival tourism interests and his political opponents were among those trying to damage Albania’s image.
Rama denied that the government was selling Sazan Island, saying the state would keep ownership and any development would face environmental checks.
The project has sparked protests over fears it could damage protected coastal areas.
