Montenegro closes two more EU chapters

Montenegro has moved a step closer to joining the European Union after closing two more chapters in its membership talks.

EU ministers on Tuesday approved the closure of chapters covering the free movement of workers, consumer protection and public health.

The move leaves Montenegro with 16 chapters still to complete.

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić said his government aims to close all remaining chapters by the end of the year and join the EU in 2028.

Montenegro is currently the most advanced of the Western Balkan countries seeking EU membership.
