Albania’s opposition Democratic Party has asked parliament to debate European concerns over building projects in protected natural areas.
The request focuses on the Vjosa-Narta coastal zone, where a planned luxury development has sparked protests.
The area is home to flamingos, seals and nesting turtles.
The European Parliament has warned that recent legal changes could allow tourism projects inside protected areas.
It has called on Albania to stop issuing new building permits or approving new works in those areas until the laws are reviewed.
The opposition says parliament must discuss the issue because it could affect Albania’s path to EU membership.
